This filter delays one field (the odd lines or the even lines) by one frame. You can use it to correct a delay of this kind in the other direction. This can happen if your software has an error or when capturing from other sources.
With field delay and VirtualDub's internal field swap filter you can create every new order you want.
You have progressive images (e.g. a movie), but your software delays one field. Now the movie shows interlace lines.
Delaying the right field: Video now has no interlace lines. :-)
Delaying the wrong field: Video has bigger interlace lines as before. :-(
You have an interlaced video, but your software delays one field. That results in a fading effect in scene changes.
Delaying the right field: Video now shows no fading effect any more in scene changes. :-)
Delaying the wrong field: Video has bigger interlace lines as before. :-(
Video frame with usual amount of interlace-lines.
An image looks like this if you shift the wrong field. Heavy interlace-lines can be seen.
